Time spent looking at the stars, viewing the comet, and watching sunsets on Lake Michigan this year has clearly influenced this body of work. The more optical nature of these drawings, which I titled Poptics, teases or “tickles” the eye as their make-up of layered geometries hides or reveals their details. The color palette is more varied like weather patterns might be, like sunlight moving through a room might be. The two paintings included in the exhibition Poptics and Paintings are an attempt at creating a painted garden, in the tradition of the Roman murals or a playful imagining of a royal inter-planetary garden. “Space is the place”!
